El presente volumen se ocupa de las principales obras históricas que nos dejó esa generación de mexicanos nacidos en la Nueva España que tomaron parte en el proceso de emancipación y que se ocuparon de sentar las bases de la nueva nación. Activos todos ellos en política, lucharon porque su proyecto de vida nacional fuera el que se impusiera en México. Su interés por escribir y dejar a la posteridad no sólo un testimonio de lo acontecido durante esos años sino también una versión que diera cuenta de cómo se había dado ese acontecer se debe, más que a otra cosa, a que buscaron con ello dar razón de su actividad política.

This volume is concerned with the main historical works left to us by this generation of Mexicans born in New Spain, who took part in the process of emancipation and assumed the task of establishing the bases upon which the new nation would rest. All of these active in politics, they fought for their life project to be that which was imposed upon Mexico. Their interest in writing and leaving this for posterity is not only a testimony of what occurred during these years, but also a version that was aware of the way in which this should have occurred, and more than anything else, they were able to seek  in the latter the raison d'être of their own political activity. Their interest in writing and leaving for posterity an account of the events of these years and also of the reasons behind them is due to the fact that they sought the reason for their political activity in this.
